The outer layer of a shell is very hard and created by the animal that lives in it. Unfortunately, the shell in the picture is empty. This means the animal has died and been eaten by another animal. The animal could have had a short or long life but we would never know. The animal adapts and survives just like humans do to stay alive. The shell is brown and white with rough edges and texture. Grains of salt still fall out of it sometimes. 

An animal once lived in the shell. Struggling to live. It finds it found in the deep dark parts of the ocean. The animal was very small like a bumblebees size. It was small enough to fit in tiny spaces and weave easily threw the ocean traffic. It has a dent in the side of the shell. Other sharp shells might have indented it. Digging the sharp edges into and cutting the white and brown shell. The other shell doesn't even have a scratch but it makes him look better than the brown and white shell so he keeps digging and scratching the shell. The animal inside the shell dies and gets eaten by other animals. The little creatures have no one to help them unless someone tries to help them they are doomed.
